So when under the jeep replacing some O2 sensors, I found two more O2 sensors than I expected! (At least, I /think/ that's what those two upstream guys are). So I've been told I may have california emissions on this jeep (though some folks have said an '01 may simply /have/ four O2 sensors).
So my question is: What exactly /is/ california emissions equipment on there, what is the negative impact of it (it's always negative), and since I don't live in california and have no intention of visiting, can I get rid of any of it (and how)?
I tried searching the forum, but didn't come up with much, so if anyone knows, or has a link to some info about it, please pass it along!

Well, if anyone is curious and finds this thread, here's what I found:

4 O2 sensors = Cali emissions. Seems if you've got two collectors /on/ your headers (where each set of 3 turns into one pipe), that's another good indicator.

I think all 2001s have 4 O2 sensors, when I looked up the O2 section of my FSM it had no notes about a different setup for Cali. I'm also 99.9% sure my 2001 is not a California model, and it too has 4 sensors.

I've been hearing this from a few people now. So maybe that's all it is. Next question is whether or not we can go back to two sensors
, but I've got that on another thread.

Yeah, did that when I bought it. Pretty sure it was Montana (or Wyoming, I forget), then Colorado (where I bought it). Neither of these states is exactly stringent on emissions.

I think that all '00-'01 XJs are setup like this. Both of mine have the exact same setup, I can't remember if they're CA Emissions or not. I can check the stickers tomorrow for better info on mine.
