Have a 1995 2.5 diesel Turbo. What is the best oil?

 

Mobil 1 5w40 turbo diesel. Perfect for this application and pretty much one of the best all around motor oil choices for anything from cars and trucks to mowers, generators and small equipment

 

I've heard Delo 400 or Shell Rotella for a diesel engine. The important thing for a diesel is for it to have the right additives in the oil. I dont know what additives are called for in the 2.5 TD, but i'd say you'd be good if you go with either one that i mentioned. In the diesel world it's been said by a few that the additives (particularly the zinc content) of the mobil 1 and quite a few diesel oils has been lowered and changed around.. But you'll get a 1000 different answers when you ask what oil is best.. Everyone has their own opinion.

Well you'd probably get a better answer if you went to a diesel forum and asked, the Cherokee diesel wasn't produced near as much in the USA than overseas, which is where a good majority of members of this site are from.. a diesel forum would probably be better at telling you what oil you need based on what additives your engine requires.

 

i would recomend the shell rotella triple t 15w40 or the shell rotella t6 synthetic blend 10w-30. i work on diesels for a living and these are both great oils. i run the T6 in my 4.0.

 

+1 to Shell Rotella T6. The 5w40 is extremely well received. Mobil1 doesn't have much to offer in comparison except for higher price.

I'm on the shell rotella t 15w40 band wagon as well. always used it have had excellent results. 15-40 in the spring 10-30 in the winter I personally stay away from syntetics

 

X2. I work on Macks and Volvos. I use to run the T6 in my choppers.

Lol. Been working on them since 98. Worked on every tractor out there. The company I'm with now has only Mack CX613's and Volvo 630's and 670's.

 

I used to drive a 2003 Mack dump truck and work on a fleet of Macks. I loved them.

 

They're not the best to work on, certainly not the worst. These new Volvos suck. Just to replace the belts, is a royal PITA.
