So I have to go in to replace my rear window washer pump. Pretty sure the washer pump is shot but will check for power first. While I am there I am just going to replace the front. I am toying with the idea of replacing the fluid level sensor. Part of my while I am here thing. But it works. I can live without the sensor but can't deal with the light being on if and when it goes bad if I don't replace it. My dumb idea is this. Is there a way to just disable it? Other then remove the bulb. Don't want to pull the cluster just to do that but I might go in to replace an Evap core and maybe can get it done that way then.

Not knowing exactly how the sensor works, I would probe the resistance in both full and empty operation to see what the limits are, then work with that to determine how to bypass. The bypass might consist of a direct shunt or a resistance.

But maybe someone else already knows how it operates...

Frankly wish the reservoir was in the engine compartment like in my '96 I used to own. Wonder if anybody ever made the swap?

I should have spent a little more time on the internet. Just googled around more and read a little more in depth about the sensor. Almost appears just leaving it unplugged will take care of it.

Everybody that says that though seems to have '96 and down XJ's. Don't remember my '96 having one though.

 

It looks like a float switch. If it's normally open (when fluid is full) then, yes, just disconnecting will be the solution. In other words, if there is no continuity across the switch leads when it is floating (full), then you can just disconnect it and your warning light will never come on.

 

When the weather gets warmer and I get to this job we will find out.
