I have a 1996 Cherokee Country. It has the Chrysler 8.25 rear end but i know that with early 1996's they were 27-spindal and later 1996's were 29 spinal. Is there any way to find out without opening differential and counting? I don't want to open, count, then order part, then add locker.

I'd prefer to order the part and only open up rear diff once.
I plan on adding a Spartan rear locker when doing it.

I've requested and received my build sheet which states that it's a corporate rear end 8.25

Feel free to ask any other questions that i can answer.

 

you have to pull the shafts and count the splines

 

Order both and return the loser.

What's the build date of your rig? You will find it on the door sticker.

 

The door sticker will tell me spindal

 

It will tell you the production date of the jeep.
09/96 will mean better chance of 29 spline
02/96 will mean better chance of 27 spline.

i phoned the dealer and gave them my VIN, they told me over the phone.
