Default Wagoneer/Cherokee Headliner?

Anyone successfully replace their headliner with an after-market product? Or have a removed headliner worthy of re-covering?

As long as the board is in good shape you can recover it with no problem

its simple enough to redo, just scrape off all the old foam and use a GOOD glue/adhesive. for the fabric ive used fleece, polyester/synthetic blends, headliner fabric (what i have now, $14.99 at hanco/ck fabric, just waiting on getting a dome light before i redo it)

Good questions. The headliner was previously replaced... And is very rough/dimpled/etc., I'm thinking the old may not be usable. Given the old is un-usable. Thoughts?

Its funny my neighbor does upholstery. He just did a headliner for a dodge p/u. He stated it had taken him longer cause he had to scrap all the old foam off to the board. He charged 40 to replace it now that was with the owner of the truck pulling it.

if the old board is broken you can try to re fiberglass it or get a used one locally.

Scrape off the old headliner cloth and foam. If the headliner board is toast pick one up from and junk yard. If not, grab three yards of headliner fabric from Jo-Ann fabrics and a couple of bottles of yellow 3M spray adhesive and go to town.

I spent the whole day today replacing my headliner. 89 cherokee 4 door. My largest issue was getting the trim off without messing it up. It's brittle after 24 years. It's a fairly simple job once you make up your mind to do it. Took me all day.

It looks good but when I removed the dome light it fell apart. Worn out.

Anybody know how to upgrade a dome light & where to get the supplies?

thanks

Another XJ owner posted about this the other day - he removed the headliner, scraped off the glue & residue, and then just primer painted the board itself and reinstalled. Said it looked great. I'm thinking of doing that as well.

Im thinking of pulling my headliner and fiberglassing it. Then send it over for a nice gloss paint job.

I'm in the process now of doing mine now. I've decided to go with spray truck bed liner. My interior is black and the liner was gray. My dime lights, speaker grills and sun visors will be gray still but oh well. Sick of the thing flopping on my head.
Anyone have success getting the foam off other than just rubbing it?

Regular fiberboard stock headliner backing. I pulled the fabric and now rubbing the foam crap off. I'll post pics during/after process one I get it done.
