Dana 44 and 60 both have 10 bolts.

I have three Dana 44's on both my jeeps.

Look at the covers. See how they are different slightly

The 44 cover is more slightly rounded on the angles while the one on 60 is more prominent

And look at the area where the full plug is at. The d60 cover is more prominent

This is my waggy 44 on my buddy's jeep before I bought it... I don't have a picture of it on my jeep with stock cover because I have the aftermarket one on it currently.

Yeah, I just noticed the more rounded rather than angular areas on the two. Guess my eye just isn't as trained. Thanks for helping me recognize that!

Now it's time to go get my 703's installed...

Thanks for the help everyone, the 3 of us were looking at the diff cover and comparing it to the chart thinking well its close but we weren't 100% so we took the gamble and i feel like it worked out. Thanks again. So next question, will the electronic trak lok from a 11 d44 work in this on if i get the hole drilled for the connector? Thanks in advance.

If it had a tow package, it might have a D44 in the rear.... also, a police option had a D44 available as well as an idle speed boost control. I've seen the D44 police option in 1st gen XJs. All other XJs with 4.0 have C30 front and D35/8,25 in rear and 3.55 gears with the auto tranny... stick tranny with 4.0 or 2.5 have other options such as 4.10 or 3.92 gears.

U can usually bet on 3.55 gears if it's a 4.0 auto tranny.... unless it's been swapped.

I have 2 87s both have D44s under them and both with towing package and 4.0 so I would say most likely that it is a D44 under it as from what I have read and seen 87 was the year that had the best chances of having a dana 44 rear axle.
