how many labor hours will it take to install a vibration damper on my 89 cherokee

depends on how many you done i did mine in around half hour but i have my own puller amd have done automotive work over 25 years

i havent done any before so would it be best to take it to a garage ? if so how long would it take for them ?

its not very hard you should be able to find plenty of write ups but you will need tools

Well, the minimum time they're going to charge you is one hour.. So.. anywhere from $75 to $90 an hour. Should be a one hour job. I'd call your repair shop for an exact estimate. Exact estimate?? That sounds oxymoronic They should give you an exact price for parts & labor.

IIRC, the labor time for a harmonic balancer replacenent, not including the seal, was 1.1 hours flat rate.
