Default Valve ticking

What can I do about valve ticking? A valve is ticking pretty badly when I'm on an upward slope and when it's in gear and when I hit the gas. I don't know where to start. I've never had encountered a problem like this so anything will help.

Sounds like pre-ignition.

Pull the spark plug on the suspected (ticking) cylinder and see what it looks like.

x2, sounds like time for a tune up

if its just valve noise

5 quarts or oil, with 1 quart of marvel mystery oil....run it for about 500 miles should clear it up

after 500 miles change oil back to whatever you were using. Make sure you use a good filter (mopar, purolator gold or napa gold)

A lifter/valve noise will not change because of a load. a piston or rod bearing can though.

How would an exhaust leak cause ticking? And where could that come from?

Is there a way to check either of those? And if so can I do the work myself? I've never had to go into the block itself before.

An exhaust leak (hairline crack, maybe a gasket) can sound like a tick. It can also be more prominent under acceleration and virtually unnoticeable while decelerating. Gotta get underneath and start looking/inspecting with a good flashlight.

When in doubt, whip them all out.

What plugs are you using by the way?

I have the same noise, I also HAV a crack in my exhaust manifold, very obvious. I'm sure its that at "only" 157K miles....

Would you suggest against welding a crack shut?
