Default Valve Cpver Gasket, replace or RTV?

Do I need to replace the gasket or can I just use RTV to make one? Half the freaking bolts on the valve cover were finger tight. 236000 and I am determined to keep this Jeep running.

I would say a bit of both, put the RTV on the side of the gasket (valve cover side) then let it dry and put the valve cover on. I did it this way for 30 years and never had one fail me yet...Tj

After you RTV the valve cover side and put the gasket on, do you RTV the other side of the gasket when you attach the valve cover?

x2. This has worked great for me too (although I didn't let the RTV dry first, I put the valve cover + gasket back on and then tightened and let dry)
