So I think I have a vacuum leak inside of my cab..yesterday after doing so light wheeling with some friends (easily a 2/3 rated trail) when I was getting onto the highway and I had the heat on my feet to warm my toes up and the blowers switched from my feet to defrost without me chancing it. And now when I drive, I can hear a sound, sounds like either a sucking or blowing of air. And it changes with the rpms..higher the rpms the louder it is, the lower the quiter.

So anyone have any ideas?

And no its not the heater. I can turn it off and still hear it.

And when I turned my jeep on just a little bit ago to come home from my grandmas house..it was reallly loud for some reason.

Check the vacuum lines behind the heater switches. I don't know what else would have a vacuum leak inside the cab. Turning your heater off wouldn't stop a leak if a line was off or damaged.

 

I know. I was just saying to advoid the "did you turn off your heater/a/c dumb ***?" But okay thanks, I guess I'll check there.

 

i think im in the same boat with my 99. i dont have any problems with my heater but u can hear a sucking sound from the dash and i havent found nothing. gets louder with acceleration. now that im not the only one i might have to tear into it.

 

your switch can still work even if there is a leak. the baffles are all controlled by vaccume. if one leaks then itll stay open and you wont notice its open and youll hear the noise. not fun to hunt down but that is most likely whats wrong.

I know. They still work, all of the switches that's not the problem. But when you have a vacuum leak, because the controlls are controlled by a vacuum the baffles will change from the feet to the defrost..which is how I know I have one.

I know where the heat blows out of too, I'm not dumb. Haha I know what's going on with it. Hahaha

Easy to find - find the vacuum hose that goes through the firewall. Blow cigarette smoke through it - look under the dash - fix where it's coming out!

 

What if I don't smoke? :/ and blowing smoke through it? How? Haha sounds like an good idea actually.

 

Find someone who does.

Or, use a big turkey baster - let it inhale the smoke, then blow it through the hose.

OR buy a smoke machine designed to do that - $800-2000
