i have a minor clicking sound coming from front axle only in 4 wheel drive.hoses on disco are not in great shape i read the tech on Vacuum Disconnect Dana 30 i am planing to remove and clean tomorrow and replace hoses. the write up addressed 5 oz of gear lube but im sure that was with axle out.my question is the disco fed though the axle shaft for fluid. i figured i would check the diso before i assumed i need another axle.i dont want to put a lot of money in it.

 

its not fully engaging. Pull it out but jack up the pass side so it won't leak out.Check the c clips inside or the pads on the shift fork i have extras i think

i know my pocket feel it every time i crawl under it. i bought this xj on panyments and from a buddy who tradded his truck 4 it and i am slowly bring her back to life she has been so ignored by po,s today i noticed clicking, missing spacer and missing bolt on tc drop kit at least i got my brakes bleed they work great now.

 

A dieing axle u-joint will also make a clicking sound.

I'd definately check the u-joints... Mine click more than a metronome....

 

dont the axle u joints turn in 2wd

 

Yes..but w/ significantly less torque applied to them than when engaged in 4WD.
