Exclamation Urgent! Jeep has horrible vibration, shaking

Tonight I was driving home after a little wheelin', everything was fine until my entire jeep started shaking and vibrating immensely to the point where I had to go about 5mph for it to be some what tolerable. I finally made it home and got under the rig nothing seemed out of place until I moved the rear driveshaft back and forth which moved basically everything under there with it; eg: transfer case etc. Is there something that I might have broken that would cause this? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, as it's my DD. Thanks

Transmission mount possibly. It's what's bolted to your skidplate (crossmember) under the tranny.

X2 If all your drivetrain is able to move by hand you should take a look at that tranny mount.

Well I checked it out.. Transmission mounts look horrible. The bottom rubber is cracked throughout and compressed all the way down. Also, Front U-joints need replacing. Ah, jeeps..

If your tranny mount is that jacked up, you should inspect your motor mounts as well.

This Prblem just happend to me this week, It sounded like the THUMP THUMP sound was from the back right area. So I always looked under there and started with that wheel... and looked all under and didnt notice anything I was thinking it may be in the Drivetrain. Well last night I noticed a lug nut missing, Well I caught it before I loss the wheel, but the holes in te wheels are banged up pretty well, is the best thing to do is just get a new wheel?

i would recomend getting spicer u joints. far better than the standard after market replacement. spicer came from the factory and they last a minimum of 100k, aftermarket parts last anywhere from 20k to 60 if you're lucky.

i don't know enough about the crazy ctm or other u joints like those cuz i've never bought them.

i am also having a very similar problem with my 97, it shakes a lot around 50mph. also get that thump thump thump sound when accelerating from a stop. the vibration only happens when its in gear, try feeding it some rpm's in neutral, i do not get any shaking. also if either one of you wanna try this, accelerate to about 15 mph in drive (2wd) then down shift into 1st gear, and see if you get any clicking sounds that slow as the rig slows down. if you guys find a solution to this please let me know, it kills me to drive it like this, but its my only transportation at this point. thanks.

fallow this advice as the xj motor mount's are known to be week and for u joints go to napa or any other parts store.

as far as i know, no parts store is carrying spicer, the dealer or i think quadratec, if they do they're much cheaper.

if thats not an option, don't buy cheap aftermarket u joints. napa or carquest, not autozone. non greasable are better. cheap greasable u joints that don't get greased, last 20k tops. if you can't find anything but greasable, which happens, make darn sure they get greased.
