They can crawl some serious stuff stock, but finesse will be your friend, brain power, not just horsepower.
Very well said. Your drivng style is very key.

Agreed. D30 with upgraded internals will handle 35's. I wouldn't smash the hell out of them. I'd also do a truss on it. But that's just me. Douche bags are always crap talkin the D30 and Chry 8.25. But a D44 is only a 30 spline while the Chry 8.25 is a 29 (newer model). And they have the same weak features. So why switch out one head ache for the same head ache?
Back to long arms. If your droppin the coin on a long arm kit. And you want to buy from a company that's been making em for a while. I'd say check out T&T Customs/Treks. I've seen both Rusty's and the Treks. The Treks is hands down superior. That belly pan alone is the sexiest piece of metal I've ever seen.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not bashin Rusty's. I run their 4.5" short arm kit. I like it, but it rides rough for a DD.
I also personally think a 6.5" long arm kit is a perfect height. Not too tall. Can get 35's under it.
Not that I have any experience with a 8" kit. But it seems like it would be so clumsy.

i wouldnt lock a stock shafted dana 30 on 35s. first day after i geared and locked mine with an aussie i snapped a shaft. then i went with alloy shafts. two months later i cracked my stock carrier and blew a ring gear. learn my lesson on 30s. if you wheel hard youre gonna need shafts, truss, dif cover and a fullcase locker.

35's will fit with more than enough room on 6.5"
Thanks!!

And yes 8" is overkill for rockcrawling and will require rotating the inner C's to maintain proper caster geometry and pinion angle.

Truetrac are lsds not lockers there is a big difference. It takes wheel spin to get them to engage. With a locker its there right away. Lsds are so unreliable. Good enough for mud but not rocks. Might as well have an open dif.

True-Tracs are not a LSD they are really a torque biasing differential, and they work much better than LSDs in the rocks.

I ran a truetrac before. It took wheel spin to engage it. That's why I went with a locker.

The truetrac does just the opposite. It senses which wheel has better grip, and biases the power to that wheel. It does this smoothly and constantly, and without ever completely removing power from the other wheel.
