Upgrading from 6.5" lift to an 8".
I have a 2000 XJ, with a rough country 6.5 suspension lift. Already put in a slip yoke eliminator. Adj. sway bars. Wanted to upgrade to a Rustys long arm8" lift and put some 35" tires on. What else can you suggest that i would need to upgrade?

upgrade to a long arm set up like you have now (FrankZ on here makes one of the best kits i have seen) and throw the 35's on what you have now.
35's will fit with more than enough room on 6.5"

I would upgrade steering, gears, brake lines, and definitely swap out the LP D30 for a HP D30. I also agree with 96_xj in saying you can fit 35's on a 6.5" lift.

For serious offroading, they won't cut it above 33's, especially if you add lockers.

for your information. Quadratec posts that becauase they want more money. I know a guy who runs locked front and rear on 35's and he beats the **** out of his, he has blown thru 3 sets of shocks from jumping his and the axles are fine. The DANA35 can not handle 35's altho in some cases ppl tun them with no problems. the C8.25 is comparable to a dana 44

Do you personally have any experience with 35's?
I do, and I beat my XJ pretty hard with 35's and stock axles and never had one problem. Well, other then bending my axle when I got some air once, but never broke one thing.

There are multiple sites that say that. Not just "someone". One of the larger off-roading magazines also stated it, can't remember which one.

You should just do a long arm kit with the 6.5 inch lift. I went with 8 inch Rock Krawler kit and it made me feel a little to unstable. In my opinion it is to tall.
This is totally right. I had a cherokee dana 44 in rear with a locker and 35's blew the rear end. The dana 35 is not strong enough if you play in the rocks. If you break the 35 you are stranded on the trail unless you have a super 35 kit which is a huge waste of mone. With a dana 35 you are trying to polish a turd. It also depends on the type of wheeling you do. if you play in puddles the dana 35 will hold up but not for any serious wheeling.

A Cherokee can handle 35 inch tires on stock axles if the stock axles are the Dana 30 & the Dana 44 or Chrysler 8.25. If you start getting into bigger rocks I would suggest alloy shafts and 30 splines in the D30 and alloy 29 splines in the Chrysler 8.25. They can crawl some serious stuff stock, but finesse will be your friend, brain power, not just horsepower.
