SatiricalHen, you probably won't like my reply. check your PM.

and Firestorm500, its unfortunate that the general public hears "lock picking" and immediately thinks of burglary and thieves. We have hobby pickers who like to solve puzzles and see locks as a puzzle and never pick other people's locks, only practice locks while sitting on the couch watching tv, we also have professional locksmiths, cops, federal agents, military operators, tow truck drivers, and property management maintenance folks on the forum, and if we get the hint that any new member is trying to learn the art so they can break in somewhere, they get kicked off the forum quickly. We also have an advanced area with topics like automotive locks and safe cracking that is only available if you are granted special access. The forum is Lockpicking101.com and I invite any fellow XJ owners to come by and visit, you'll see we're a law abiding bunch.

its not necessarily light weight but I had a problem with a key to my xj being the wide 90s style dodge style key so I used a hack saw and cut the ears off of it to what a an older late 70s or 80s style Chrysler key that used to look like sort of the shape of a pentagon. works the same but fits in my key pouch much better

I had a 70's ford with that big oval head key for the trunk that was aluminum. They came like that.

My apologies if I offended you, or any member of your community.

I presume you are familiar with "Elementary", in which Sherlock Holmes has a wire-type wall or rack in his Brownstone that is full of locks that he likes to pick for recreation, relaxation, and to stimulate his mind.

its all good no hard feelings, believe me I could bump into my aunt at the grocery store and tell her I pick locks as a hobby, and she'd probably clutch her purse and back away slowly. We spend a lot of time on outreach and teaching people that the locks they depend on may not be as good as they have been led to believe by the manufacturer.

I may or may not have a screenshot of his lock wall as a wallpaper =)

Have a good one,

No kidding. Lockpicking isn't a hobby of mine, nor is it something I've studied/trained for. With just a little knowledge of how locks work, some reasoning, and some common sense, I've picked locks (in every case because a key was lost/locked in; the locks were always mine to unlock) successfully with little effort...

That's disturbing. Not only that I've done it but have done it so easily has taught me to never trust locks to actually keep anyone out.

Someone once said to me..........." A lock is only there to keep the honest people out. "

Makes sense...............

No offense to the lock-picking community

I've been considering doing that to most of my keys to reduce their bulk because I don't like having a huge mound of keys in my pocket.

Get more key rings and split them up. You can't use them all at the same time.

Like I said before, criminals break windows. If you don't care about the end result crowbars can open doors. Lockpicking is an art. Honestly, there are very few crimes involving lock picking.

The best description I've heard is that locks are a social convention, what the mean is more important than what they do.
