I know 96+ has the bigger u-joints. In the older years the XJ's that came with ABS also have the larger u-joints.

95-97 is a weird time kinda like 89-91. no 2 vehicles seem to be the same.

95 was a transition year so some of the 95's at the beginning of the year were older stuff like the 94's and towards the end of the year the 95's were more like the 96's. An example of this is the unit bearings, early 95 models had the older composite style rotors and older style bearings where later year 95's had the newer cast style rotors and used those style unite bearings. So 95 models are tricky.

Similar to the 91's some were renix initially to get rid of older stuff and then became HO's. The 91 I parts out was an non HO motor and I know it was a 91 unless the vin was inaccurate.

basically if it's a 96" you can rest assured they are the larger u-joints, any older models 'd look for that ABS.

typically, early xj's with the 242 t-case had the larger joints. 231 equipped xj's has the disco front axle.

all later than 92/93 has the non disco axle with larger joints.

and yes, all equipped with ABS has the larger joints.

So my 91 with abs and an np242 has the larger u-joints??? And the almost alloy kit will work on my axle shafts without having to upgrade them? I'm about to buy a 95 dana 30 but if mine have them already, I'm not gonna bother.

I've had my axle out twice, and still haven't been able to even get the clips off the caps. They just don't want to move.
