hey there. 1992 jeep cherokee 4.0 here. started up the other day and made it one block and stalled. turns over but wont start. stalled the same the other day but started back up right away. pushed it back home and checked for spark. no spark. new plugs and wires. checked for spark after the coil going to distributor and nothing. checked for power going to the coil and nothing. switched the relays around and nothing. possibly the crank position sensor? anyone had anything similar? thanks so much for any help.

Ya, kinda sounds like your cps. It's fairly easy to replace. DO YOURSELF A HUGE FAVOR and only buy a MOPAR sensor!!! Can't stress that enough. I bought a cheapo cps from autozone and it crapped out a week later and left me stranded I the mountains not cool

This.

Buy yourself a swivel head, and about 3 foot of extensions for this repair. It will save your breath from not having to cuss as much trying to fight it off.

Unfortunately, I don't know a reliable way to test this. Maybe someone can chime in.

I've never tried it, but some guys say if you unplug the cps and try cranking it (it definitely won't start now) and then reconnect it and it does start, it's definitely a bad cps. Just what I've heard, don't know for sure

Try to determine if the injectors are firing when cranked (test light, long rod, whatever). If not then the computer is unable to process timing signals and the problem is one of: crank sensor, cam sensor (distributor), ASD relay, or the ECM itself. If it is generating injector pulses then the problem is ignition specific.

Maybe someone could help here. My Renix has two power feeds to the ICU/Coil unit. IIRC the front yellow is power, 12 ish, and the rear yellow is the 5 volt from the Puter. Your 92 HO may well be different, but I think there should still be 12 and 5 somewhere to the ICU.

It's not gonna spark without power there, independent of the CPS. ( I think the CPS/Puter' just makes that 5 volt "modulate")

Even though it re-started once I'd be checking fuses...maybe a mini fuse for the ASD relay?

figured out how to check for codes this morning. it gave me 12- battery disconnected in last 50 key cycles, 35- cooling fan relay , 33- ac clutch fault ( don't have ac) and then 55. any reason why the cooling fan could auto shut of fuel and spark?? realized i cant hear the fuel pump kick on as usual.

You should fill out your info. 92 was it? I'd be checking fuses...maybe a mini fuse for the ASD relay?

How well does that setup work. I've always been wary of ones that cheap.

I have had mine a couple of weeks. I chose that one after reading a lot of reviews. Love it.
