Hello all, having some issues with the XJ

1987 Cherokee
4.0
automatic transmission

This is a project that my son and I are working on trying to get it on the road. Finding issues as we progress. Upon doing so noticed none of the signals are working, front or rear. Headlights, Taillights, Hazards all seem to be working as they should be but no signals. Both flashers for Signals and hazards have been replaced. All Bulbs for the signals have been replaced. Been reading thru several other threads for similar issues. Ill be checking the ground inside the engine compartment to make sure that's good, Was wondering if there are any other relays related to turn signals that i can look for. Also plan on checking continuity at each of the sockets. Being that all four signals aren't working im inclined to think its a bad ground. The actual turn signal lever appears to work fine, nothing seems broken but havent dug in there quite yet. Any other suggest on things to check are greatly appreciated

 

Do the turns light but not flash? Do the cluster turn lights come on? Do your brake lights work? What about the backup lights?

There is a 20amp fuse in the fuse box for Turn/BU lights. Check that first.

thank you for your reply, the lights do not turn on or flash, the cluster lights (only the right arrow) turns on when headlights are on but it does not flash. Ill double check the backup, and brake lights as well as the fuse. pretty sure all those checked out but ill double check to be sure

 

Ok so did some work on the Cherokee today.

-replaced both front sockets with bulbs
-removed some old trailer wiring that was spliced onto the rear harness behind the spare tire carrier.
-checked rear ground while everything was exposed
-both flashers for hazards and signals were replaced
-all fuses checked out ok

cant find a ground under the hood, if anyone knows I’d greatly appreciate it

i don’t hear the turn flasher working when I have either signal on.

*thinking a bad ground maybe?

*also after reading other posts maybe I have a bad ignition switch? My heater and wipers don’t work either

 

So turned out I had a bad ignition switch. Once I changed this out turn signals, heater, wipers all became functional again
