You can search junkyards, pull one for $50, rebuild it for $200-$250. I just sent a request for price to Clearwater. I'll get back to you when I recieve a reply.
Later '02 to '04 WJ and later '02 to '06 TJ will have that head.
Thinking finding one off a WJ should be pretty easy in the boneyard.
I have picked up 2 in my travels for "stock" just in case.
One was from a blown '04 WJ motor that a guy was selling whole for $50 off Craigslist local to me.
Asked him if he would part with just the head for $50. Turned out the engine had a cracked piston top when we removed the head.
The other I got from a '04 TJ for free that had a lower end knock from a customer of the auto parts store I work at.
They might be usable as is, might be rebuildable, or might be door stops. LOL.
Will find out if and when the time comes.

Ralph, take a rubber hammer and "bounce" the valves to cut thru any carbon that might be on them, then fill the chambers with mineral oil or something light and watch for it leaking into the ports. If it doesn't, the valves are sealing pretty good. BOLT IT ON!
But the opportunities presented themselves so I snapped them up.
Was thinking I would have them checked. Will try what you suggested at some point though just to see.
I did soak them down in PB Blaster and wrap them up tight to store them.
Hoping that was not a mistake though. LOL.

Okay, I said I'd get back to you after I got a quote from Clearwater and here it is. New heavy casting with inserted hardened valve seats, new valves and springs, and shipping both ways, $600. In 2015, I bought one without inserted valve seats because they weren't offered then for $455. Same 5 year warranty against cracking unless overheated.

It seems like many of the ebay sellers sold out of the TUPY heads; I haven't been able to find on for a good price either recently (I was thinking of buying an extra just to have lol). I'll have to hit up the Junkyards to see if I can find a TUPY. Your best bet, if you don't want to search JY's is probably to get the new Clearwater casting now, although its almost double the price TUPY's used to be.
