Default Tune up

So I want to do a tune up on our jeep. What would you guys suggest? It's a 1989 Xj with 194,000 miles and it's an automatic. So far the list is:
Spark plugs
Air filter
Oil change and filter change

I was suggested to do the cap and rotor too and the fuel filter. What do you guys think? And anything else? Thanks Ben and Kayla.

*Spark plugs (Champion copper gapped to .035)
*Plug wires. Don't buy any "el-cheapo" wires
*Distributor cap (with brass contacts, not aluminum)
*Rotor (again, premium level rotor)
*Fuel filter
*Air filter

Depending on history, ALL fluids. Fluids are the lifeblood of your vehicle! Oil, coolant, tranny fluid, t-case fluids, differential fluids.

Replace any old hoses, there are only 4 of them. Hoses can rot from the inside out. Radiator cap, thermostat (195 degree).

Cleaning the throttle body and idle air control is not a bad preventive procedure.

Would you guys suggest lubing stuff up too? I just saw a bunch of guys talking about it on the what did you do to your jeep today thread. And if so, where all would I lube?

Everything listed above, Lubing is part of normal tune-up and service. Also belts should be checked. Brake fluid and coolant were left off the fluids list, but they should also be done. Brake fluid is one that almost every body leaves off, then they wonder why the wheel cyclinder in the rear brakes are froze up and rusty. Brake fluid absorbs water and should be flush and change at least with every brake job. I do mine yearly, after the rainy season is over.

Use the Bosch plat +2 or +4. I used them on my 89 and 01. I heard iridiums last 50,000 miles.

The cap and rotor it was sends the spark to the plugs.... There will be 6 spark plug wires coming out of it. Same side and behind the alternator. Between the 3rd and 4th plug. Next to the oil sending unit. If I had that model, it would show u. My 01 isnt a cap and rotor. But you CANNOT miss it!

Where is the fuel filter located on the 98? I was told, perhaps erroneously, it is located in the gas tank.

A factory Jeep Service Manual is a wise investment if you are planning on doing your own maintenance.

That is inconvenient how does one go about replacing it? Sounds like an all day project.
