Hello there and my 1991 jeep cherokee has troubels starting in the morning. She cranks and starts then idels down and dies. I have the 4.0 straight 6 engine. Thanks.

 

Idle air control valve.

 

Could be map too. Try cleaning the iac per instructions in tech write up section. Also check the vacuum connection between the tb and map sensor.

 

Need more info to diagnose properly. Does it stay running once warm? How long do you have to crank before starting?It could be many things i.e.,fuel pump,clogged filter,f.i. to just name a few.

It stays running fine when warm. Its just in the mornings after she has been sitting.

 

Those still have egr valves?

 

I cleaned the iac, so we will see how she starts in the morning.

 

so I’m currently working on my 91 jeep Cherokee Laredo 4.0, I’m have a small problem with it starting, i started it this morning and drove to the mall 30 minuets later when i return for the mall to start it, it doesn’t turn over. no engine noise at all, no pistons firing or belts moving nothing. its not my battery because all my electronics work such as my light, sound system ect. i just went and replace the started and still nothing. if I have a buddy twist the ignition and i ark the starter solenoid it fires up like a champ. but as soon as i turn it off and retry it. doesn’t start. any ideas?

 

Nuetral saftey swich. Had Same problem with mine, you can look how to bypass it or simply get a new one. But if you bypass it just remember it will start in drive and reverse.
