Alright so Ive probably painted my trim lets see.....
About 4 or 5 times now and every time the trim looks nice at first,
Then within a few days its peeling, or getting sun faded or whatever!
I first used Plasti Dip, laid about 3-4 layers down on it. Within a day (literally)
It was already chipping off. Then a few months down the road, cleaned and prepped it for another paint job, I used Dupli-Colors Black paint, that lasted all about a week or two and instantly was chipping. So I then went ahead and purchased myself some 3M Rubberized coating! And boy that was my absolute favorite to work with!! Laid down 2 coats after painting and prepping and that lasted all about a month, not even and the damn thing is sun faded and looks like garbage!!!

What the heck. I wanna do Hurculiner but thats expensive and whose to say Its gonna last after all the other paint jobs Ive done. What do you guys
Use for painting trim? You can see in the picture mainly on the front bumper what the DupliColor looked like just after a few weeks....

 

If they keep peeling you are not cleaning the part good enough. They have to be cleaned really good and scuffed so the paint will stick. You can by the spray cans of bed liner for fairly cheap. Just make sure to prep it right or that will pill off too.

 

I don't know if this will help, but all I did is use a pre-packaged prep wipe (purchased at Autozone for about $2) to wipe them down, then Krylon Fusion gloss black to paint.

It's only been 2 weeks, but it still looks great with no fading or chipping, even after a drive through car wash. Others have said they used that paint and it's still good after a year or so.

Also once you scuff lay down a coat of primer. Its not the paint you are having issues with its your prep job.

 

Yeah I was beginning to think it was my prep job too.
This is what I do for prep;

Wash the truck,
Take a SOS pad to the trim and use about
2 pads per trim piece.
Then I rewash the area
Take sandpaper to it and scuff it up a bit.
Lay a layer of primer down
Scuff it up again
Lay another coat of primer
Then Paint.

Im a big Krylon Fan. Used it for painting my dashboard bezel which came out amazing! May try that next.

If you prep it like that you shouldn't have any problems with it peeling again. You may want to wear rubber glove if you are handling the parts once you prep them, The oils in your hand can cause the same problems. Just a suggestion.

 

Use Krylon Fusion Satin Black. The quality that comes out of this $4 can of paint is insane.

It claims no prep needed, and that is true.

Clean the trim very very good with an ammonia based cleaner, no need to scuff of sand trim, as this paint supposedly bonds with the plastic.

Since they are already painted, there may be a different process, and it is listen on the can (Like if you are painting over surfaces that have already been painted)

Either way, this stuff is great. It has held up on my trim and bumpers for 1 year so far and looks as good as the day i applied it.

I even painted the interior of another vehicle with it, and it came out nice

"Krylon Fusion - Satin Black" - you can go with gloss if you want, i just think the satin comes out nicer
