Trim levels?
Can anyone tell me what the difference between the Pioneer, Wagoneer, Custom and Chief trim levels are? I have a pioneer, a supposedly "luxury" trimmed car...and yet, it seems identical to the chief a friend has, even the same engine, a V6. What is the deal?

No, most of them came with the Chrysler 8.25" underneath. I don't think I've ever heard of any Countrys that came with a D44 from the factory...nor have I heard of them being lifted. Mine certainly wasn't. I think the big difference in all the trim levels is mostly interior and a little bit of exterior cladding/trim. No performance differences (with the exception of differences in the rear axles, ie D35 compared to 8.25").

the sports had an upgraded suspension (a little stiffer) manual everything and the red striped trim at the bottom sometimes came in outrageous colors and is almost identical to the basic except fro the above mentioned items

I have a 96 Country and it has a 8.25 rear and was not lifted at all, until I got ahold of it. The country came with a softer suspension and rode alot smoother than all the others. Also came with wood trim[plastic wood] and power group, overhead console, sound bar, cruise, tilt, light group and mine has leather. I dont know if they all had leather or not.

I believe it has to listed as having a "up country suspension pkg." Which should be a 2" factory lift. Includes 6.5 arched leaf springs, Longer shocks, Taller front coils, and factory skid plates underneath. If you look in Mopar/Jeep parts catalog, there listed in the suspension section. (A total of 31 parts, in the pkg. Probably includes all the bushings, u bolts, etc.)
