My xj has trim that goes along the sides, or buggy guards as i call them. They are grey and look like crap. I believe they are supposed to be black like the bumper corner covers. How can i fix this ugly problem. Spray paint????

I took them off and washed them real good. then spray painted them black.

Agreed, unless you think you can paint them while there still on there (which is VERY difficult to do without overspray) then I would suggest just taking them off. Once you take them off they warp horribly and become impossible to get back on there. I took mine off with the intention of painting them and putting them back on but realized I loved the look with them off.
Also I wouldn't suggest using mothers back to black or other similar products. They are a temporary fix so unless you want to apply it every 6 months or so, I'd paint them.

I kinda think it depends on the look you wanna go with. I've used the Back to Black (but you've gotta keep using it), I've painted them (SEM makes nice trim paint), and also removed them all together. But, just keep in mind that if use Back to Black, and decide to paint, you're gonna have to clean the s#@! out of the moldings or the paint won't stick.....

The trim is just held on with double stick tape. I carefully pulled out on it while slicing the tape, top and bottom (stay close to the molding and away from your paint) with a razor knife. I then hit the remaining tape on the body with an eraser wheel on a cordless drill at low rpms and being careful to not stay in one spot too long. It came right off. I cleaned the whole area up after with 3M decal adhesive remover. Only took about an hour. 3M and eraser wheel (Its actually made for removing decals, in case they don't know what your talking about) can be purchased from most part stores or autobody supply shops.
