Tried to remove the other rear shock. Failed.
I don't think you are dumb. maybe toting some sort of mechanical inferiority complex on your shoulders, or possibly a fear of failure...a mix of both, perhaps? however, I can honestly say, I've had a lot of long nights jumping into repairs that *had to be done. a lot of us did things the hard way - long before forums like this and people as generous as these folks.
it surprises me, despite your infinite insight, wisdom, and general ability to foresee truth/deception in information (ie the tool debate, I agree 100% with you)...that you have yet to purchase something along the lines of a Chilton's or Haynes manual. those books have detailed step by step instructions, WITH PICTURES. do yourself a favor and purchase one, very soon.
for unknown reasons, simple tasks are very challenging for you. I don't think it's a lack of desire or ability. you are 1 of 2 things...1) a troll [and very good at it, I might add] - or 2) scared to death of thinking on your own.

I can't push the shock to the side if you can't remove the shock from the lower bolt.
This weekend, I bought a pickle fork for my air compressor, so I will use that to try to pry off the shock.
I also bought pry bar set, so I will try them, since the long pipe didn't work.
Since the upper bolts are rounded, I guess I can hack them up.
To all the "only $200 worth of tools" folks out there,
here are all the tools I've purchased JUST to try these rear shocks:
$300 compressor
$20 air chisel
$10 chisels
$50 impact wrench
$10 impact extension bars
$100 impact sockets
$50 pry bars
$10 pickle fork
$50 Dremel
LOL, OVER $600 worth of tools JUST for this rear shock job.
One thing I tell ya, boy, this auto mechanics hobby is more expensive than golfing!
The local stealership quoted $233 for rear shocks (including parts!)
I think this is why no one fixes their cars and everyone leases brand new cars.
I'm in for $700 including parts, and only have 1 shock installed (and an easy 40 hours of research and shopping time invested)
It's way cheaper to get your car fixed at the dealer while sipping a latte and driving a brand new loaner car.
Yes, $600 vs $233. The list is right there in front of your face.

You're in it $700 because you didn't use your brain. You could of been in the $100 mark if that.

Something else to remember. I'm not sure how true it is if BJ is a lawyer or not, as I've never heard it directly from him, but if he is, all of this makes complete sense. I go back to the statement I made earlier about not everyone being cut out to work on cars. He is not. But he seems REALLY GOOD at twisting words around to prove a point. Stick to lawyering if this is the case dude, and I will agree you are good at that. The rest of us will go back to working on our Jeeps and getting things done. And you can go back to twisting words and facts around to screw people out of money.

Better start planning now, might take up to a year to research and get halfway done...

That's a crock and you know it. As "Internet Liars", everything we type is a deliberate fabrication to make ourselves look like superheroes. Haven't you been paying attention?
