Transmission worry
I am replacing my AW4 transmission as the former owner had filled it with gear oil instead of trans fluid. So far I only had 2 months of fun with my '01 XJ.
I bought a used trans a month ago and now I finally was able to put it in. However, I noticed very little fluid came out of the trans and when removing the pan, I had a few small pieces of metal on the magnet. Not much or large, but enough to worry me.
Should I be worried for the metal pieces, and what fluid should I put in the trans? I read ecerywhere Dexron III as that is where the AW4 specs were based on.
I am also thinking to replace the solenoids, unless someone can give me a good reason not to.
Thanks!

Don't worry about it yet.

Do a series of drain and fills til the fluid is nice and red.
A good testimony for doing a good fluid level and condition inspection on a "new to you" vehicle right off the bat, eh?
