Transmission will not mount back to Engine
Here is my stroy with using a trans jack. I tried to change the clutch in my ranger by using a trans jack. It was compeltely useless. You only need the jack for lifting the trans and hang it up with some chain. The jack needs to be removed and you need to go under the trans in order to guide and install it. By trans being there you never get to realy push and turn the trans like you need to. I tried unsucsesfully for about 3 to 4 days until an old country man came by and saw the mess I had got myself into. He told me to run a 2x4 across my doors and hang the transmission. When I did that, It made all the difference in the world. As soon as I got under the trans it went right on. You could use a regular jack to lift and hang the trans. Transmission jacks ( the kind that you work with low under the car are waist of money. I feel sorry for my $139.

FIX:
I used the HF Trans Jack plus a new clutch. An excessive amount of rocking side-to-side got it working. I had to remove the side-adjust gear, and replace it with a pry bar. The pry bar allowed severe leverage to roll the input shaft into line. I also learned that my 80-90 Trans fluid was the wrong fluid and I should use 10w-30 motor oil. I plan on flushing it soon.

DFlintstone,
I have noticed what you are saying is true. I am about to try 10W-30 again because after this swap, I have lost the syncro to 4th gear completely. Its an AX-15 so rebuilding it seems like the only option unless the fluid will give me that gear back.

I'm defiantly no expert, just saw something about fluid pitting brass syncros.
(some don't have brass). Heck, I've made do without a clutch. Just getting it in to 4th...well I might last a while,....anyway you might have a while to look for a replacement. Probably a little tougher now than when I did it 15 years ago. I DID pay, $250, but, after a memorable weekend it was done.
