I have a 1990 cherokee 157k only have had it in my ownership about a year. It seems like the tranny is slipping. from 0-35mph no problems from 35->mph if im just cruising the rpm jump up and down and kind of jolt me front to back. any ideas? I thought maybe fuel problem i put a new fuel filter in today, still happening. I also checked the fluid seems full enough. reg oil is a little low

When was the last time you changed the transmission fluid? What does it look like? Is it a clear cherry red or is it dark and smells burnt? Could be as simple as that. I'm sure that someone more knowledgeable will chime in soon.

I'll pass on the snake oil myself. I've been learning here on the forum. When you drain and refill. (not over-filling, checking it idleing hot in neutral), that doesn't get it all, like what is in the torque convertor. That's fine! There is no reason to rush it. Dexron III is high detergent, just let the new work on it and up your intervals, (like on oil changes), until it's nice and pink.
Your TPS, (throttle position sensor), is adjustable and affects shifting. Change out the smelly stuff and take it from there. In the meantime if you click on the link in my sig, right on-top is Cruisers tips. That explains checking/refreshing your grounds before adjusting the TPS.

Change the fluid, drive it for a while, lather rinse repeat UNTIL the fluid stays red and does not smell burnt.
Use only Dex/Merc III compatible fluid.
