Default Transmission mount loose?

Hey guys I have tried finding a solution to my problem but no body has posted that this was actually the problem. Found a lot of posts like mine but no solutions. When I am just starting to go in first gear my jeep makes a knocking noise coming from right underneath me, and I can feel it in my shifter, in fact I can even see my shifter move around. So, does anybody know if this is a problem with my mounting bolts coming loose? I'm not actually sure because it knocks around on the highway too. U joints are all brand new I thought that might be it but it wasn't. It's been making this noise since I got my clutch replaced at my mechanic and I have a feeling he ****ed something up but I'd rather just fix it myself. It's a lot worse now that I've been off roading in the spring sludge, now even when I hit a bump the thing knocks around and it just doesn't feel safe anymore.

Probably not an entirely bad idea to slide underneath it and have a look around. Getting dirty is alot more fun than endless research/searching anyways.

No one will be able to tell you what it is. The only one that will know would be you and you are going to have to get under it and start looking for loose part and start pushing things around. Anyone that says they know what it is will be guessing. You need to investigate. If you can't do that on your own you would be best off to take it in and have it checked out.

Just to be sure, how much does the shift lever actually move around? If it just moves to the side a little, that's normal.

Man I would put $ on it being your exhaust ratting against your crossmember. Mine did the EXACT same thing when I put it in drive. It felt and sound like my jeep was falling apart from under me. A fresh new tranny mount lifted that sucker off and I have had zero problems since! Hope this helps

I'm thinking it must be, based on so many poster's reluctance to do it.

so after some prodding around I think it is my transmission mounts, my exhaust is tight and doesnt seem to move, but when I grab my back driveshaft and shake really hard I see my transfer case moving around with it and it makes a tiny little clunking noise, I imagine with my engine hooked up to it it would move around alot more than what I can do. I was hoping I didn't have to take off my skidplate and find a tranny jack... but I guess thats where I am headed now.

Floor jack and a piece of wood will work fine.
