It appears Toyota has a habit of over building transmissions. I have to admit the aw4 in mine has dealt with some **** in the time I have owned it. I accidentally dropped it into gear at about 4500 rpm on pavement. All it did was chirp tires.

What do you mean you wish you had the aw4? I thought you had an auto?

The aw4 was the only auto used with the 4L. Look on the wikipedia page for the Cherokee it has the trans breakdown by year under powertrain.

4.56 would be better. It's going to be a dog until you regear no matter what though.
