Default Transmission Issues?

Hey Y'all! I have a 98 Jeep Cherokee Classic 4.0 4x4 Automatic Transmission.
When I go to start up the jeep and put it into reverse it sometimes takes a few seconds to actually fully go in to reverse. And every once and a while it doesn't fully go in to drive and when I go to hit on the brakes (even just tap them) It's like i'm slamming on the brakes and the tires screech an it comes to a slamming stop. The only way for me to fix the problem is to completely turn off the Jeep and then crank it back up. What could be my issue here?

Sounds like could be a fluid problem. When was the last time you had the transmission serviced? How was the fluid the last time you checked it?

Fluid is good. I haven't had it serviced (I've only owned it for a year and half). But I did have it checked out, just a basic look over, about 8 months ago.

So I have a question. In neutral, my fluid is where it should be. But in park, it's overfilled and foamy. My dipstick says to check in neutral while idling. So in neutral while idling, it is good as I sad. But in park, it's overfilled. Should I be worried?

Nice and pink/red? Does it smell funny at all? Level good?

Might try this for fun. Easy and it needs it.

lol love that, I've noticed that I have to step on the gas pretty hard for it to get up to speed, but in my moms jeep it's about half as hard and we have the same engines. Hers is an 04 GC and mines an 02 with the 4.0. Would this technique work on mine or just pre 2000?
