Transmission issue
Everything seemed normal this morning driving to work. On my way home today I hopped on the freeway and it didn't seem to want to drop into overdrive. I had to stop for an errand, when I left at the next stoplight it hung in 1st until about 3000 rpm then popped into second, the rest of the shifts were fine. Next stoplight fine. The following stoplight also fine, then at the following one it did it again. I got it home, let it sit for 10 minutes or so, then moved it out to the parking lot to check the fluid. Level appears to be fine, and while driving from the garage to the outside lot and back it shifted into 2nd normally. I know nothing about transmissions and would really appreciate any insight here before I take it to the shop. Thanks!

I don't have a transmission with overdrive but check this out. There is a transmission kick back cable that is attached to the throttle body. Check that out. There's a post somewhere on here that gives you instructions on how to adjust it

Just FYI, that isn't a 'kickdown' cable, it's a throttle valve cable. It changes the line pressure in the transmission according to throttle position.
TCC lockup problems- check the TPS first, then the brake pedal switch, and on later models- 96+, the NSS.
You should have TCC lockup at steady speed above 45 mph or so. Tapping the brake lightly should cause RPM's to increase by about 300 (TCC unlocks) then immediately drop back down again (TCC locks again).
Overdrive is different than the TCC lockup- it's actually 4th gear, again relies heavily on the TPS signal.
