hay there all, i have been trying to find out some stuff about my tranny and haven't had much luck

If it's behind the 4.0L I6, it's the AW4 auto (Jeep desi,) or 30-40LE series (Toyota desi.) It's a pretty damned rugged four-speed automatic - I've flogged a couple really hard without any complains from the slushbox.Originally Posted by RomanS

i take that would well to assume that the 30-43LE part of the model # would make it an 30-40LE series (Toyota desi.) is there any diffrence from the two when ordering seals and what not?

ok, after loooking around at some other sites it is all looking like it make to be a AW4. If you go to to page below and i cross refrenced the numbers on my transfer case with what tranny the chart say's i would have a AW4 except it has it as being under 99 instead of 2000, but the production numbers still fit within the range. if anyone would have anymore info/ideas/advise on this it would be greatly appreceated

Only thing I can see is that you've got the low range on your transfer case reversed - it should be 2.73:1 low, not 3.72:1.Originally Posted by RomanS

hey i got the same tranny its hooked on my 01 xj 4.0 with the np231 "aw4" so i think i got a pic of it i need to know what type it is cuz i have a major leak on the bottom and side seals !

The bottom leak is likely a sump gasket, easy fix.
The "side seal" leak may the the shift shaft seals - they're small, but not the easiest things in the world to replace (the shift shaft has to come out, and it's retained with a funky collar arrangement inside the case. Break the collar, slide the shaft out, replace the seals, slide the shaft back in, redo the retainer. You may as well clean the NSS while you're about it, since it will have to come off anyhow.)
