Prior to '99 I think both connectors were Black (maybe). In '99, at some point, the Transmission Range Sensor (NSS) was changed to Gray (the '99 FSM says it's Black). The 2000/2001 are Gray. The pic is of my '99. It was built April 1999.

I almost mentioned that in my post. 
In any case my 90 has both black and grey, I'm sure that goes back to 87 at least. Since Renix doesn't break down much, (like the others), I've had no need to tell them apart for the last 14 years.
