Default Transmission Electrical Connections

So I'm pulling the trans from my 2000 xj and the only thing I can't figure out is how to disconnect the electrical connections going into the trans and how to disconnect the cooling lines. I've tried searching to find an answer but I couldn't find anything about this. Any help is appreciated thanks!

U ll need a special tool to disconnect the cooler lines. I used 3/8 fuel/AC disconnect thingamajig.

And the electrical connections are at the engine bay just next to the transmission dipstick.

I'm not much help. I think there are connectors rear of the engine dipstick. Might be both black for the NSS and Grey for the solenoids. You might cut what holds wires on the trans side. Idk about the speed sensor.

Again, Idk about the lines. I would expect flare fittings with nuts, like a brake line. "quick disconnect" would just be squeeze and pull. The dipstick tube may be two piece?

Hey, that AW4 is one tough beast. Why are you changing it?

In any case, I hope more in the know chime in.

Yeah I'm curious too. Why are you pulling it? Many aw4 came back to life just after simple series of drain and fills.

Well it's in a 2wd jeep that I picked up for cheap after I rolled my 4x4 xj so I'm just gonna swap over my trans and axle and this trans is pretty well blown to bits. When pushing it even in neutral it sounds like the trans is full of rocks.

OK, would that be the hard kind of rocks? (we have softer shale here). Or maybe that Volcanic stuff, (krunchy). Did you pull the inspection plate and check the torque converter bolts? They are known to loosen and make a racket. (it's always helpfull to fill out your info Btw) I'm no Wiz on trannies. Noise in neutral might be the torque converter, Idk. The condition of the fluid and/or pulling the pan might ...yada yada

Oil cooler lines at trans can be disconnected by squeezing the white tabs together and pulling the tubes out. THey may be so rusted in place that you'll have a hard time getting them out. You may have to remove the couplings with the tubes. I recommend changing the couplings anyway.

Here's a view of the trans connectors at the trans dipstick tube. Don't forget to cut the trans breather vent tube loose as well as it needs to come out with the trans. C107 stays with the engine but needs to be cut loose to make room for the trans electrical connectors to slip by.

Had the engine out for rebuild so I took the time to clean everything up and take some pics - for occasions like this.

Leave them hooked up to the trans and pull the harnesses out with the trans.
