Transmission Control Unit/ TPS error troubleshooting
Here's the deal: I just finished replacing my cracked exhaust manifold with a replacement header. So I took the intake off, removed the old manifold, replaced the blown motor mount, bolt the replacement manifold on, and button it all back up. Start er' up runs fine. I give it 10 mins to warm up as the new manifold seats in, there no leaks all is good etc... When I go for a test drive, it acts up. There's almost no power in drive, and can only really pull away from a stop by selecting 1.2 From what I've pieced together my Transmission Control Unit(TCU) is acting up. Basically it's starting out in 3rd and won't up shift or downshift through first or second gear. On top of this I've got a periodic rough idle( goes away when I pull the battery cable off) but comes back in about 10 minutes. When it idles bad it smells like its dumping gasoline/ running way rich. I've triple checked all my vacuum lines and electrical connections. I can't hear any intake/exhaust leaks but it's definitely got a rough idle or misfire. I did pull the injector and the fuel rail during the manifold install, could this have upset something. I can only think that when I had my intake off, I cleaned it really well with carb spray and it dicked up the throttle position sensor or something (TPS) I've read the TPS sends info to the TCU.
The AW4 was golden before the intake swap and I doubt its a solenoid or valve body issue(please god no) but I'm still hung up.
Any advice would be a life saver, I need this thing for work.

If you got carb cleaner in the TPS it's probably ruined.
Are you sure you aren't stuck in 4th? That's what the trans defaults to when neither shift solenoid is operating. Might check power to the TCU, the trans connector and such.

Might find this useful:
Did you say the TCU has no power to it? That'll cause issues, lol. Might see if yours has the inline fuse near the TCU itself, I forget what year they stopped putting one there.

Ok, I haven't been home since spring break. I'm going to try and diagnose the problem this weekend. I'm thinking it's one of the shift solenoids, and I've found a test online:
"
To check solenoids in transmission without removing pan - removed plug off TCU that is located Rt side dash under clove box -with key in off pos.- volt/ohm meter check pos. lead terminal C14 converter clutch solenoid should read 11-15 ohms, terminal C15 shift solenoid #2 should read 11-15 ohms, terminal C16 #1 shift solenoid should read 11-15 ohms make sure you have good ground on - lead. If solenoid cks good problem is else were loose wires or tps
my 1996 jeep cherokee would not shift automatic, manual only - found #2 solenoid bad.
Best to troubleshoot problem than to change unnecessary parts

I've got an ohm meter and I know where the tcu is, however does anyone have a schematic for identifying the C14, C15, C16 connectors etc...
