transfer case questions!!! please help!
I have a 1989 jeep wagoneer and it has the NP242 select trac transfer case. I would like to put a rough country 6.5" long travel lift kit on it but on the rough country site it says it will not work with models with the NP242 transfer case. Why is this and is there anyway around it or can i swap transfer cases or anything?? If anyone knows your knowledge would be greatly appreciated. I'm new to jeeps but not cutting and welding.
their 6.5 kit will work, but you're clicking the "SYE" option, or it is a standard option with the kit.
the slip-yoke eliminator is ONLY for the np231 transfercase (which is a direct swap to your jeep, from any similarly equipped/year xj or mj).
you can get a "hack'n'tap" SYE for the np242...it is not as strong as a true SYE, but it's all that is available.
the SYE kit improves driveshaft functions by correcting pinion angles, keeping you from being like the rest of the idiots out there with transfer case drop kits out there, and reducing driveline vibration.
at 6.5", it is NECESSARY.
