Default Transfer case oil slinger question

I just replaced chain on np231 transfer case. I placed the original oil slinger back on the rear output. My question is does the oil slinger turn with the shaft or does it stay stationary? Does the boot turn too?
Thanks

Can't you turn the shaft and see if the slinger and boot turns with it?

I need to know if i have to press the slinger on or leave it kinda loose on. I know the boot tightens onto the slinger. Just looking for anyone who knows.

Below is a pic of a ghetto tool I used to install the slinger. It's a 1-1/2" brass sink drain pipe (from Lowes).

The slinger is tighter than a 14 year old apprentice nun to get on so you'll need to heat it up pretty good to get it to start on the output shaft, then place the ghetto tool over the slinger, flange end toward the slinger, and tap it into place with a plastic mallet , or place a piece of wood over the end and use a hammer to drive it home.

This pic shows how far the slinger goes in to bottom it out. Shown is an OEM slinger. The boot is held on with a cable tie.

The parts catalog calls it a "SLINGER, Oil".

I guess you could say it "slings" dust and dirt (as well as oil).

Yes all of the official literature calls it a slinger so we call it a slinger Doesn't look like one to me but hey. Curiously the doodad inside the case that moves oil is called a "pump"... looks like a slinger to me. What a wacky world.

Thanks so much for the replies! I just ordered a new one. So I'm presuming the slinger and boot turn with the shaft?
