Hey everyone I tried researching my issue but still cannot figure it out. Put a new transfer case in and didn't really think about the linkage when I pulled it off. (np231J) Now I am trying to re-install it but I can't get it to go into 2hi and it feels really clunky when I try to drive in 4 low. The rod is out of room to move/slide once in 4hi. Do I have this thing all backwards or something? What should 2hi look like down there? Any help would be appreciated Thanks

Rebuild the entire linkage. It'll get rid of all those stupid rods and make the linkage a lot more tight and firm and stop it from slipping out of gear.
Here's mine rebuilt on my NP242. It's the same on the 231 except you don't need that unistrut extension (due to the extra gear in the 242 it needs slightly more throw).
If you want to go this route i can explain it more.

Thank you. Took a few hours to figure it out and make sure it shifted perfectly, but i finally managed to figure it out. Had that in for about 6 months now and its been working flawlessly.
