Default Transfer Case?

Hi, I'm a noob to the jeep world so I'm a little lost some times. I just recently bought a 95 Cherokee sport which I have always wanted and had to rebuild it from the ground up. After rebuilding the engine I went to put it in 4wd and it just makes a horrible noise and when I'm driving down the street you can hear it tick like crazy. Now me being a noob to the jeep world I looked at the transfer case and seen that the tag said it was a 231 J so I went and bought a mint 231 J out of a 91 sport thinking that it was the same and when I got it home I noticed that it had vacuum line and mine doesn't and also has a mechanical speedo which mine has a electronic. Now after telling you my life story what I would like to know is if there is any way I can use it or if I can put the internals in my case? I think I can swap speed sensor but I don't know about the vacuum peace.

Thanks!

Plug the vacuum ports and yes you can swap the speedo speed sensor housing from the old transfer to new.

Take a look at the input gear and make sure both are 23 spline and the lengths match.

Thanks a lot and I will check it all out. Now one more ? on my transfer case there is a sensor where the vacuum peace is on the other case. What does that sensor do or control? Thanks

Don't drive it in 4 low on dry pavement or you have a chance of trashing the transfer case.

I never did. I just drove slow in my yard to see if 4wd worked!
