I believe '91 still had the vacuum disconnect on the front axle. I would check that and check your vacuum lines making sure everything is intact.

You can get underneath it (While it is on level ground) and mess with the linkage. That usually helps me out on the trails when it won't come out.

when its in neutral see if it is really in neutral or if the linkage is just off. Because if the linkage is off it might be in 2h...

is there a way that you can climb up and take a picture of the shift linkage for the transfer case? That will help to see if it is not set properly(maybe)

Also, Nice looking cherokee, Great find! Although it does not look like you have a standard brake booster, but rather you have the weird chrysler "electric" brakes, there is a life time warranty on those no matter who the owner is to have any issues with them fixed. just an FYI.

actually here is what pictures would be really helpful! Pictures of the transfer case linkage, and pictures of the front axle.

That way if it really is stuck in 4H and you DO have the CAD front axle we can direct you on how to manually take the collar on the axle shafts and disconnect it to where even if it is in 4H it will really be in 2H... But again

Will the tranfer case shift to neutral? Do you have a 231 or 242 Case, with or without 4FT?
