Default Trans cooler being installed. Question?

Trans guy called. One of the lines going to radiator is wet. He said I should replace it. But, I would need to remove radiator and he doesn't do that.

So, he said I could by pass it and go cooler to trans and back only. I agreed. I had another shop do this 10yrs ago on a failed trans on Jeep. No issues.

He also said the filter might be original! Something about how it was sealed. He used to work at Jeep 30+ years ago. He has been at this same shop/location for 27 yrs.

The cooler he is putting on is a Hayden 1405

So, what's your question? If you can bypass the factory tranny cooler that's in the radiator? If that's your question, then yes you can. Many people have done it that way. Many people have added the tranny cooler in addition to the one that's built into the radiator. Either way can work. When I did mine, I did it in addition to the one that's in the radiator.

And which filter is original? The transmission filter?

Max fluid cooling (summer) AND faster fluid warm-up (winter) is achieved when the auxiliary cooler is mounted in line with and after the factory rad cooler.

Thanks for the feedback. I called a few local shops for a second opinion as well. They stated it was fine and done all the time. Maybe due to West coast weather? I don't know. Basically, this beast is made for a rig weighting in at 22,000 lbs towing a 5,000 trailer or vehicle!

I am glad I had the unit serviced. It was 1qt and 1/2 low. It had a leak in the hose. The fluid was ready to be serviced. The filter looked ok actually. It now shift SOOO smooth compared to before.

Due to the small amount of room. I ended up with this unit listed below.

Hayden Transaver Trans-Cooler
- 22,000 LBS. GVW
- Heavy Duty Driving, pick-up trucks and vans, heavy duty towing to 5000 lbs.
- Class "C" motor homes, travel trailers to 24 ft.
- 7 1/2 x 15 1/2 x 3/4

Hayden Transaver coolers provide:
  • Patented turbulator in every tube means up to 60 degree heat reduction
  • Every joint is ultrasonically brazed for long life
  • Every Hayden cooler is pressure tested at 150 psi
