If it is a manual trans than the 75w-90 oil will be perfect for both. But if its the auto it needs automatic transmission fluid and 75w-90 gear oil in the t case.

^NO

Dexron II in the tcase.
Dexron II in the AW4.
Dexron II is no longer around, so you use Dexron III.

I dont know what to put in a manual trans, Cause I dont have one.

Edit: magator beat me.

gear oil for axles, automatic transmission fluid for transfer case, GL 3 for ax15 transmission, or 10w30 motor oil for ax15 if you can't find GL3

AW4 was the only auto trans used in 4.0 cherokees.

Dexron III.

Ok I thought later ones used a different trans.

Whats the difference between dex/merc and dex III?

I still see with a quick google places like here and others that say to use to use dex/merc.

I'm guessing since you first asked if you should put 75W-90 in your tranny you have a stick. I'm running 10W-30 motor oil in mine right now. I have also verified this is the proper lubricant with both Jeep and a mechanic of 30+ years that I know. Plus its cheaper than gear oil. And it will take about 3.25ish quarts
