Default Tranny thump when put in drive??

What does my tranny hit so hard and make a loud thumping noise when I put it in drive? Please help it doesn't sound good at all and I dont want to keep doing it if I can fix it. Thanks

Check your u joints. Probably the cause

Could be worn motor or trans mounts...

I would say u-joints or mount

LOL u-joints can be a PITA or easy peasy. If they are rusted and seized in there its gonna be a major pain. If you want to change u-joints Id rent a balljoint puller and use that to push the u-joint caps out.

My bet is on the transmission mount.

I've been successful with a hammer and socket, and I live in WI where rust is bad.

If your having trouble use some Blaster.

Transfercase chain also a possible cause ....u joints-mount-chain.

Heck, it could be the exhaust pipe hitting the cross member.

I'm gonna stick my neck out and suggest the OP have someone with a larger automotive skillset take a look at his Jeep for him.
