Does one have to pull the motor, to pull the tranny out of a 90 xj? or have to remove the motor mounts to angle the tranny enough to pull it out? Just trying to figure out what im getting my self into. Im assumeing theres enough room to simply slide the tranny back and striaght down?

A good floor jack is all thats needed.
I would split the transfer case and pull it out and set it off to the side.
Then you can lower the engine/tranny down, no do not remove the motor mounts, and no you don't have to pull the engine.
Want to unbolt the torque converter from the flex plate/flywheel and remove the starter, then the shifter linkage and the cooling lines, and the inspection plate.
Now your going to want a long extension and a swivel or swivel socket, to get the bell housing bolts out. Then just pull it back on the jack.
If you do not have a concrete floor to do it on, put a sheet of plywood under it so your jack can roll.
