Exclamation Tranny only wants to shift at redline. please help

ok over this weekend I converted my 88 xj to the looped cooling system. I changed out the thermostat housing to the one with the sensor in it, replaced my heater core, and completely deleted the pressure bottle. I also replaced both sides of my vaccuum harness and both of the lines off of my charcoal canister. after getting everything back together last night my tranny will only shift at redline. the only way I have been able to drive it is to unplug the Tranny Control Module (TCM) and manually shift it through the gears. I have no idea where to start on this problem. Any help is greatly appriciated.

Thanks in advence.

Sounds like a solenoid issue. Could very well be you have something hooked up backwards as far as the vacuum lines go, but I'm leaning more towards a solenoid issue.

Its the throttle position sensor (TPS) Change and adjust and you'll be good to go.

We have the same year XJ Burnout...

There is no vacuum line to the transmission.

Check the voltage to the TPS. I just had to do this to mine. Same symptoms.

TPS must be completely tested per procedure AND adjusted. The RENIX (87-90) TPS is adjustable and that is important.

Any question, replace it and be sure to adjust the new one as they will need adjustment out of the box.

It is critical to shifting characteristics of the transmission.
