Trailer hitch receiver vs tow hooks
That said yes my hitch probably does hang a bit lower than some. Hitches are stronger tow points. It's just in my experience for off road performance only, not towing. Tow hooks or similar you can mount in a variety of places that are out of the way compared to a hitch with an insert.
Again each of us have different applications and you have to weigh it out for yourself as to what your needs are.. One shoe size does not fit all.

whether you build a bumper with hitch like mounting brackets and heavy shackle tabs or use a better built hitch itself, either one is ideal for our sport.
those tow hooks looks like they're for plowing fields. for one thing, it's an open end so your tow strap is likely to fall off before the recovery even happens, not to mention if it does slip down while being tugged, that point can poke right through the loop of the strap ruining it, rendering it useless.
use proper rated D shackles to secure both ends and you will be fine.
