Get properly mounted tow hooks on the front, receiver hitch shackle in the rear. Unless you want to spend the money and get a nice front bumper with D ring mounts that ties into the unibody, which would be the nicest option for front recovery without a winch. And if you're using your tow hooks for recovery, always try to use both of them to distribute the load better. I understand that's not always possible, but best practices and stuff, ya know?

I just got one of these for my rear hitch, and I'm pretty happy with it. Just make sure to get a solid receiver shackle, not a tubular one.

Where did you get that hook from? I want one!

I just picked this one up from Wal Mart...

I got it from amazon. It seemed to be one of the better ones on there. Here's a link.

A hitch uses at least eight grade 8 bolts! And ties the two frames together

Again this is why no one listens to you, you give crap advice. You can't seem to admit to yourself that you give bad info. ANYTHING FOR RECOVERY SHOULD BE DONE IN A OVERKILL WAY NOT "GOOD ENOUGH" that's a shi* poor way of giving advice and you know it.

Hitches work. I said that. They also hang you up. For wheeling they are not the best choice.

If you have a hitch on your cherokee then you are stuck taking the girly lines. And I am not even remotely being funny.

All I can say is if you run a hitch with a tow point sticking out the back of the hitch. Have good tow points all the way around. You will need them.

Really girly lines? That was the best you could come up with? Lol there is a reason why you leave the d ring shackle tube(like shown above) inside. It doesn't leave anything sticking out, maybe you were unable to figure that out and kept getting that hung up? I'm at 2" and 31" and I've done plenty of steep climbs and decent. My hitch has only ONCE hung me up. A proper low profile hitch hangs down just as much as a rear tow hook(what! No way!) both hang below the bumper a tad but ya know, id rather scrape a hitch than a flimsy single hook. so guess what, again your pathetic excuse of a statement of girly lines is inaccurate.

JK means just kidding. You seem hard headed. I was too. About the 10th time I got hung up is when I wised up. Sounds like it may take longer for you. LOL

To the op. If the nut plate area is questionable then get a good tow bracket and weld it in. You can bolt also. Even if you have to weld a Plate in first. One really is all you need.
I started out treading lightly. Having fun with cool little off the tarmac adventures. Complete with hitch. Notice it's packed full of mud on a nothing trail? LOL

Then it started to become fun and addicting. The hitch was clearly in the way. Hanging me up almost everywhere. So it had to go. And of course I found the bumper was now the limiting factor. LOL

So if you ever intend on getting off the beaten path. There is no place for a hitch. If you just want to hit light trails and such. The hitch is an easy and strong tow point.

You just won't quit will you?

So taking this pic and how a hitch wouldn't work here because hitches are meant for girly lines right? Now look real close to your rear bumper, see where that rock and where your bumper is touching?

Odd.... It looks like a "manly" trail rates tow hook, that you suggest is better is in the area being dragged on that rock.....

Give up man, you tried to say a hitch isn't stronger than a tow hook, you've tried to say a hook wouldn't get hung up but clearly where they mount(same height as a low profile hitch) would get dragged on.

It's sad because your ego won't let you admit you're wrong. Won't even admit that you might have had a too low hanging of a hitch. This is why no one listens to you.

The post was not addressed to you because I knew you would not understand it.

And you act like a child. This is for adults. Please go away.

I'm not trying to cause any problems or fight with anyone but your hitch does stick out more than mine I know that it will still get hung up on more than two hooks but mine is slightly better than yours
