This area around the heater core outlet connection on my water pump is always fairly damp. Is this a sign of a water pump going bad, or just a leak at the connection, or something else?

Also, this area around my engine is also damp quite a bit, I don't know if it's oil or coolant or what. Any thoughts?

I know I have some oil leaks, but I'm thinking they're on the bottom, not the top of the egine, either the rear main seal or oil filter adapter.

1st pic is the coolant inlet/return tube from the heater core to the pump. 2nd pic is probably a little oil from a leaky valve cover gasket. Here's one way to replace the tube on the water pump. It's a brass 3/8" MNPT X 5/8" hose barb nipple available at just about any hardware store for $2-$3. It will require a slightly longer 5/8" heater hose but it will never rust/corrode.
