Default TPS High Idle 1600-2000 rpm P0123

Hello! Does any one had a problem with the TPS i get very high idle all the time from 1600-2000 rpm it used to happen every bluemoon but when i cleared the code it ran fine, i all ready checked the tps voltage with the scanner .46v to 4.79v approx... and changed it checked the harness and connection to tps and it was repaired with electrical tape, I rewired tps harness again thinking that i found the problem. still the same i get code P0123 tps/apps circuit high input, and also my cruise control does not work go it to work once and only kicked in at 55mph vacuum lines ok i dont know if it has something to do with it also iat is ok. I almost forgot when i leave key on engine off and start pressing the pedal about 1/2 to 3/4 from full throttle check engine light comes on and sometimes it dies while running 2 or 3 times when it first starts. Any one that had the same problem and found the solution or similar HELP!........THANX

Default Found one of my high idle problems

I was checking under my Cherokee a exhaust leak sound that came from my cracked exhaust manifold, which i know thats rare not very common. lol i figured that the o2 sensor was reading a lean mixture that was causing the high idle so i did a temporary repair until a get a need exhaust header. But for the TPS problem still there i clear it and come again after a couple of days it runs normal for me nothing noticeble besides the high idle but still when i clear the P0123 code and i leave key on engine off i press the pedal about 3/4 and check engine light comes on with same code. Any similar problems out there!HELP oh! also cruise control does not work i dont know if its related or not.

IAC, MAP, ECT and check every vacuum line/component.

Cruise control is vacuum.

If you continue to code for TPS, regardless of if it tests out okay, replace the TPS. They aren't expensive. But be sure that wiring and connector are SOLID.

I am to the point of replacing my "new" TPS. With the gas prices the way they are, I can't afford for my xj to idle at 1750 RPM! I have double checked all the vacuum lines and manifold gasket. I was told do not buy your TPS at advance or autozone...that is of course after I bought mine at Advance! I'll be picking one up tomorrow, so I'll let you know how it goes.

Default still trying

I did buy mine at advanced after the check eng light fianlly came on. It fixed the light and gave me a bit better gas mileage, but I was still having the same problems. I started to look harder after that didn't totally fix the problem. I still had the high idle, having to stomp the peddle to kick it down myself. I notice that the throttle body was not fully coming back after letting of the peddle. Cables are good, but I used my finger to give it the extra little it need and it seemed to kick the idle back down to normal every time. When the piles of snow start to melt I will hit the u-pull it and grab another throttle body and go from there. love the jeep. besides this annoying and sometimes unsafe problem the thing has been a beast. just hit 236k

Default TPS Problems

I've been having the same issue with my 98, but the throttle only stocks when I engage the cruise and I don't really have idle problems. I do however have the skipping, missing, slipping, not sure which it is and it's hard to describe. I replaced the mechanical spring TPS that came from the factory with a digital piece from O'Reilly's and it fixes my code for a while after a particularly wet wheeling trip but recently it's been throwing the same P0123 code and doing the unsure throttle problem and also throwing a code at wife open. The throttle will stick if I engage cruise and dangerously will continue accelerating me until I kill te motor and physically push the butterfly back fully closed. I've cleaned the whole assembly more than once but I haven't tried the cruise again. I just started researching the problem and I will be checking my harness in a bit but if anyone found a problem please let us know. TEAM XJ
